Scoring by quarter (FCBB - RASTA): 27-16, 22-14, 22-15, 30-12
FC Bayern Team Boxscore: Maik Zirbes (18 points/10 rebounds), Nihad Djedovic (17), Devin Booker (15/6 reb), Vladimir Lucic (10), Reggie Redding (10/6 assists), Danilo Barthel (8/6 reb), Alex King (7), Dru Joyce (6), Nick Johnson (6/6 reb/4 ast), Anton Gavel (4), and Bryce Taylor. DNP: Maxi Kleber.
Sasa Djordjevic, Head Coach, FCBB: "We came here to win and that's what we did. Our attitude was really good, we even put in more intensity than usual. And still, Rasta came up strong with three three-pointers in the first quarter. We absolutely wanted to stop them, and they have good scorers on the team with (Frank) Gaines and (Moses) Ehambe. We finally succeeded in forcing them to make difficult shots. We had a clear advantage under the basket, we knew where we had to bring in the ball. In the end, our deeper bench brought the intensity that gave us the advantage over the entire 40 minutes. I'm sorry that Vechta will be relegated, but that is sport and we were here to give it our best."
Maik Zirbes, Center, FCBB: "We were well prepared for the fight that awaited us here. You just cannot underestimate any team. For me personally, it is getting better and better. I feel good, always getting fitter. We can continue (our solid play) from here forward."
FCBB Head Coach Sasa Djordjevic was forced to change up the starting lineup with Maxi Kleber ruled out before the game. Anton Gavel, Nick Johnson, Vladimir Lucic, Danilo Barthel and Maik Zirbes came out first for Munich's second-to-last regular season road game in the Basketball Bundesliga. Immediately after grabbing the opening tip-off, Gavel fed Johnson with a perfectly timed alley-oop, the American finished with a smooth reverse jam for the early 2-0 lead. Bayern built an 11-4 lead after the first five minutes, but Frank Gaines shot Vechta back in with this three-point accuracy (13-15, 7' minutes). Lucic ended the run with a three-ball to snatch back the lead, and Alex King buried the rainbow three along with a fastbreak dunk to help the Reds finish the opening quarter on an 11-1 run for the 27-16 advantage. (10')
RASTA Vechta broke their three-minute scoring drought for the first basket of the second quarter, but Devin Booker got the Bayern offense back on track with a dunk and a basket to help build the 15-point lead (35-20, 13'). Zirbes controlled the boards after missing an alley-oop chance and another close shot, but finally scored as the lead continued to grow (41-20, 16'). Barthel and Booker added easy scores around the paint and Reggie Redding's layup earned the Reds the 49-30 score at halftime. (20')
Bayern's offense took some minutes to warm up after the break, as both teams stumbled with turnovers. Vechta got going first, Gaines and Moses Ehambe leading the way with three-pointers to scratch back into the game (55-42, 27'). Dru Joyce started the decisive run with a three-pointer, then two steals to setup Booker's three-point-play and Redding's three-pointer (66-44, 28'). The Reds completed the quarter with yet another run, this time 16-3, for the 71-45 lead heading into the final ten minutes. (30')
Nihad Djedovic kept the hot shooting going with a layup and three-ball (76-46, 32'). Zirbes took over in the middle of the quarter, scoring Munich's next eight points, and Djedovic finished the 14-2 run by driving through the lane and dunking over his defenders for a statement slam (90-54, 38'). Three-pointers by Joyce, Booker and Djedovic wrapped up the Easter Sunday romp with a final score of 101-57. (40')
