Bayern Wins 12th Straight in BBL Beat Ulm 89-75
The Bayern Ballers won their twelfth straight BBL game and remain alone at the top of the German League standings. In front of a packed house of 6,200 in Ulm, FCBB beat a very solid Swabian team by a score of 89-75.
The first quarter was the key for the victory and they owned it on offense and defense putting up an impressive quarter score of 29-10. With the early advantage, the rest of the game was all about playing with enough energy to not let the home team feel like they could get back into the game. Jared Cunningham had a very good night and led all scorers with 22-points.
Bayern will have a short rest for the New Year before their next game on Tuesday, January 2nd which will be played in Turin at 19:00 CET. This EuroCup game will be followed by a matchup in the BBL in Wießfenfells next Sunday at 17:30 CET.

FCBB Head Coach, Sasa Djordjevic: "For us this was certainly the most important win of the season so far. Away and especially in Ulm in front of these fans it is incredibly difficult but today we were ready from beginning to end. We didn't want to let these fans come into the game at all because if they hit some threes with their great shooters, it could be another wild game. But we had it under control except for a few moments in the third and fourth quarter, when Ulm brought their pride to the floor and they hurt us with offensive rebounds. However, I am very happy with the way in which we managed the whole thing. We had a season high in forced turnovers today and I'm very happy about our performance."
Jared Cunningham: "A great victory. We knew how difficult it was in front of this crowd. We were very focused, especially after the defeat in the EuroCup a few days ago. We wanted to respond in the right way and fortunately we succeeded. We played well and it was an important victory for us. Now we have to switch to the Top16 in the EuroCup."
Marko Pesic: "Jared Cunningham scored 22 points today, but on defense he was really perfect today, I have rarely seen such a defense in the Bundesliga.”
Ulm Head Coach,Tim Ohlbrecht: “Bayern has been playing really well this season, you just have to admit it. Right from the start, they are convincing in the EuroCup and also in the league. Maybe we were a little too nervous at the beginning and it caused our bad first quarter. Congratulations to the Munich team that deserved to win."
The last match in 2017 began for FCBB with Anton Gavel, Jared Cunningham, Reggie Redding, Milan Macvan and Devin Booker as the starting five. The visiting Ballers came out of the gate playing well and consistently found answers for the attempt by Ulm to trap and double the Bayern ball handlers. After four minutes the lead was 10-4 for Bayern and Devin Booker was owning the first quarter with six assists and four points before the half-way point of the quarter. Even more impressive than their offense however, was their defense that forced multiple turnovers early on. They also dominated the boards and after a nearly perfect quarter the Ballers headed to the second quarter with a dominant score of 29-10.
The break was a much needed one for Ulm and they started the second with a more calm and collected demeanor and went on a quick 5-0 run. Still, Bayern didn’t blink and Braydon Hobbs and Nihad Djedovic poured in a few threes which brought the score to 39-20 with five minutes to play in the half. The play on the court got a bit chaotic towards the end of the second quarter but the Ballers kept a consistent intensity and at the buzzer they had a 17-point cushion with a score of 48-31.
The second half started out on the wrong foot when Devin Booker limped to the bench early on with an apparent ankle injury and almost immediately he was joined by Braydon Hobbs who got whacked on his hand by an Ulm player. Still, the Ballers kept control and they superb depth helped hold the lead at 19 halfway through the third. Reggie Redding was a big part of holding the lead and showed his versatility by hitting deep balls, dishing assists and collecting offensive and defensive rebounds. Fortunately with three minutes to play, Booker and Hobbs were back on the court and they helped maintain a nice lead before the start of the final quarter.
Coach Djordjevic had to call a quick timeout when Ulm went on a quick run and brought the Bayern lead down to 11. The Ballers were having some issues on the boards but Milan Macvan, who missed the last game due to an illness, brought some calmness to the quarter with four straight points. The other hero of the fourth (and the entire game) was Cunningham who on top of his offensive production had four steals in the quarter. The final minutes ticked by without difficulty and Bayern came away with a solid win with a final score of 89-75.
